The US military engaged in building a database of Afghan citizens who were working with the US military in any way which involved collecting their fingerprints and iris data, possibly along with data for facial recognition. The articles mention that the technology could be connected to four databases: the Automated Biometrics Identification System (ABIS), the Afghan Automated Biometrics Identification System (AABIS), the Afghan Personnel and Pay System (APPS) and the e-Tazkira. This biometric information is now in the hands of the Taliban and could be used by them to target possible opponents.  +

Germany has utilized automated facial recognition technology since 2008 through its central criminal information system, INPOL (Informationssystem Polizei), managed by the Bundeskriminalamt (BKA), the federal criminal police office. INPOL, operated on Oracle Software, stores data such as names, birth details, fingerprints, mugshots, and DNA records, though DNA information is not automatically logged. Facial images of suspects, arrestees, and missing persons are included. The system employs anatomical features from surveillance footage or images to match against INPOL data using Cognitec Face VACS software. As of March 2020, INPOL held 5.8 million images of 3.6 million individuals, accessible to all German police stations. The BKA also shares biometric data internationally through the Prüm cooperation.  +

Palms Shopping Mall is a vast mall in Lagos, Nigeria. Hikvision cameras were installed. The cameras are described as 'intelligent'. The features listed include people counting and automatic number plate recognition. While biometric usages cannot be ascertained, Hikvision camera systems can have this capability added on. The cameras here are not being used only for safety, but also to collect behavioural data for business insights which could imply the usage of some form of behavioural recognition.  +

In order to secure over 200 service stations, TotalEnergies Ghana enlisted Steelholder Ghana and Hikvision to supply the video system. The system is 24/7 and lists object detection and anomaly detection as features. The use of facial recognition or other biometric usages cannot be ascertained. However given the usage of the system for security purposes and the capabilities of Hikvision systems to have facial recognition added on it can be speculated that this is at play. Furthermore anomaly detection sometimes contains elements of person tracking.  +
