About 300 Dahua surveillance cameras with facial recognition capacity were installed in cities in the state of Coahuila, in northern Mexico. Currently the database uses so called 'exception lists' ('black' lists for criminals and 'white' lists for missing people) made by the secretary of public security of Coahuila and is operated at the municipal level. Information is shared with security authorities at the state and federal level. There is interest on the part of the authorities to use federal databases in the identification process, including data on people prosecuted for a crime and security officials, as well as the electoral national database, which contains records of about 90 million people. The last official information on the use of these cameras is that they are still on 'pilot' phase. Dahua CEO also donated thermal cameras to the state of Coahuila in 2020.  +
A shopping mall in Mwanza chose to install a network of Dahua cameras. Every area of the mall can be monitored with the high resolution cameras. It is unclear whether facial recognition or other technologies are in use, but deployments in other malls usually point towards the use of people tracking and counting, sometimes facial recognition. Dahua has been connected to the deployment of mass surveillance technologies in Xinjiang, China.  +
The Presidential Office of Zanzibar, which receives many visitors, has a Dahua video surveillance system. The Revolutionary Council of Zanzibar is semi-autonomous from Tanzania. The interior system uses facial detection and audio recognition using 'intelligent' cameras. The perimeter exterior cameras use people tracking. Dahua is associated with the deployment of surveillance technologies in Xinjiang, China.  +
Meskel Square is a busy public space in Addis Abbaba, Ethiopia's capital. A new 1,400 space underground car park was built. In order to manage the traffic flow, a smart parking solution was sought. A video surveillance solution from Dahua Technologies was installed by Anhui Antai Technology Ethiopia. The use of biometrics cannot be ascertained, though Dahua also provide such technologies. At minimum, the system appears to have some form of object or person detection, and most likely license plate recognition. It has been used to investigate thefts. Dahua Technologies has been the object of scrutiny after being linked to mass surveillance practices in the Chinese province of Xinjiang  +
In Rotterdam's Fieldlabs Inbraakvrije Wijk project, researchers are utilizing advanced technology to enhance public safety by detecting suspicious behaviors and sounds. The project is in its initial phase, employing motion sensors to analyze approximately 100,000 walking patterns through 20 million data points. The aim is to identify abnormal walking patterns and unusual sounds, such as breaking glass, which could indicate suspicious activity. This includes deploying smart fixtures on lamp posts that serve as the area's eyes and ears, capable of recognizing distinct sounds and movements. Munisense, a partner in the project, integrates these sensitive sound sensors into lamp posts strategically placed throughout the Lombardijen neighborhood to help reduce burglary rates.  +
In the Living Lab, the Johan Cruijff ArenA is working with the police, the municipality of Amsterdam and TNO on smart innovations in five areas: 5G, location, smart facilities, facial comparison and unwanted objects. In these areas, smart systems need to show that they add value for the visitor.  +
