The first nucleus of the Public Security forces, was the National Gendarmerie and formed from 152 auxiliary policemen on November 06, 1962. Based on Decree No. 65-174, the National Gendarmerie was organized through various bodies, formations, and units. According to the multiplicity of disciplines and the diversity of the tasks assigned (to it), the National Gendarmerie militarily follows the same ascending ladder to which the armed forces follow in general.
