Summary Since late 2019, the Taiwan Technical Mission in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has been implementing an 'intelligent' transportation system, coupled with the rollout of smart CCTV at transportation hubs. The system lists a range of tools, including a 'smart image monitoring system' and 'face recognition'. It appears the system will be deployed onboard buses and minibuses in the country. In 2021, the report states that 150 bus stations are also surveilled. The fechnical mission forms part of the Taiwan Cooperation and Development Fund. The reported aim of the project is to help Saint Vincent and the Grenadines reach its development goals, and for SVG to 'learn' from Taiwan's ICT systems for the surveillance of public transport.

Description[ ]

The smart transportation project in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines includes the rollout of smart CCTV. The system is to address 'security' problems on public transport. The bus is the main form of transport in SVG.

As part of the on-going thrust to develop the island, the Intelligent Bus Management and Monitoring System Project Implementation Note was signed between the Republic of China on Taiwan, and the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines back in 2019. The overarching objectives of the project are to improve the management of the public transportation sector (eBus phase), and enhance surveillance in public areas (CCTV Phase), in the country. The CCTV Phase is completed with a fully functional surveillance system currently in operation 2

In 2021 progress on the system is listed as follows, and include capabilities such as 'face recognition'.

To the end of December 2021, the following activities have been completed:

1. Completed establishing smart image monitoring system and smart image analysis system, including real-time electronic maps, traffic counting system, face recognition system, capability building, stress testing, and continuous operation testing. 2. Strengthened bus management function, having a conversation with president of Minibus Drivers Association and holding a "minibus driver briefing session". 3. Established smart bus dynamic information system, surveying 150 bus stations (total distance is about 100 kilometers), holding smart bus discussion meetings, displaying smart electronic paper stop signs and on-board equipment, and collect smart bus information systems Internet bandwidth information, investigating internal information of minibus vehicles, planning external publicity and other items.
