Description[ ]
A Vumacam surveillance network has been put in place in the municipality of eThekwini, as part of a nationwide expansion of Vumacam CCTV in South Africa. In eThekwini, the official partners of the deployment is private security company Ensure Security. A fusion centre has been facilitated by this partnership. The CEO of Ensure Security is Kyle Connolly who is interviewed in the following excerpt.
Connolly said crime would be tackled through the use of its technology, adding that Vumacam supported private security companies and public law enforcement agencies through enabling technology that was a powerful tool combined with on-the-ground response teams.“Vumacam has recently started to roll out CCTV pole and camera infrastructure in eThekwini, with plans to ultimately install approximately 2 400 cameras across the city. The smart camera network will cover strategic areas across the municipality, the suburbs, strategic arterial routes, critical public infrastructure, and areas that have been recently targeted by criminals,” he said. He added: “Our next generation overwatch network, Neon, has positioned us perfectly to partner with Vumacam, offering a smarter, more efficient approach and the ability to offer our clients a level of security unprecedented in the security industry 1
Vumacam said that its CCTV cameras and technology have been instrumental in helping law enforcement and private security tackle crime in the City of Joburg, and more recently in Ekurhuleni and Mogale City. “CCTV feeds will be monitored in the eThekwini Disaster Management State-of-the-art Fusion Centre which brings the public and private sector together,” Vumacam stated. The Fusion Centre was launched as part of the Safer Cities initiative. Private security companies that apply and complete a vetting process will also have access to the camera feeds 3
