More than 80 "smart" cameras have been installed on the streets of St. Petersburg. The system can recognize cars' faces and license plates and record lost items and emergencies, including accidents and fires. As the Smolny Committee on Informatization told on November 30, cameras “see” faces in real-time, programming them into biometric models. Such prototypes cannot be used to restore the original images, but they are easy to match against databases from various sources.

На улицах Петербурга установили более 80 «интеллектуальных» камер. Система умеет распознавать лица и госномера автомобилей, фиксировать забытые предметы и чрезвычайные происшествия, в том числе ДТП и пожары.

Как рассказали 30 ноября в комитете по информатизации Смольного, в режиме реального времени камеры «видят» лица, программируя их в биометрические модели. По таким прототипам невозможно восстановить оригинальные изображения, но их легко сопоставить с базами данных из различных источников.
