IPSEC Malaysia deploys safe city software in Iskandar
Information Certainty: Documented
Deployment Purpose: Surveillance, Traffic Surveillance
Summary |
---|
In Iskandar, police use an integrated video management system to detect crimes. This forms part of the safe city plans for the region. Since 2012, IPSEC security has been the systems integrator for the video based technologies. The actual products in use are unknown. IPSEC's main partner for deployments in Malaysia is Dahua, who offer facial recognition. It is possible that forensic facial recognition or other forms of analytics are being used to carry out criminal investigations. It is mentioned that 'intelligent' video analysis is at play, and that anomalies and 'events' of interest can be detected. |

Safe city software such as an intergrated camera system has been deployed in Iskandar since 2012. All regional police can access the video service and stream to it. Events of interest are identified.
The software applications serve as the nerve centre for CCTV operations and govern actions such as monitoring, event dispatching and management, and emergency responses. Powerful video analytics software analyses video streams and detects any anomalies or events of interest allowing relatively few operators to man a control centre with hundreds or thousands of cameras. The software then alerts the operators for further action 1
In Johor Bahru the camera network has recently been extended. The cameras may facilitate forensic facial recognition for criminal investigations.
Noorazam said having the cameras installed at strategic locations in Johor Baru had helped MBJB monitor the traffic lights’ system from the CCTV control room. The cameras also helped its enforcement team to keep watch on beggars, illegal hawkers, vandals, obstructions as well as in responding to emergencies, he said. “MBJB can also identify flash flood areas and the causes of traffic congestion, besides assisting the police on road accident and criminal cases 3
