Description[ ]

In a bid to ramp up surveillance in the city, Vadodara city police department in Gujarat is planning to install a system of artificial intelligence-based facial recognition cameras at public places such as railway stations, markets, bus depots, and parks. 1

For using these services, Vadodara has tied-up with Clearview AI, a company which scapes image of users from public sources such as social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, among others. Other city and state police departments are also using Clearview AI software, which runs a scan to match it with its existing law enforcement database, which is said to have 3 Bn images. In the US, law enforcement agencies are using the same software to investigate crime and security. 1
